Business Plan Coaching
Individuals may choose to serve as in-class mentors to individuals and small groups of students working on their business plans. Coaching has a profound impact on student success and NFTE business formation rates jump from 14% to 30% when students are coupled with mentors.
Time Commitment: Approximately 1 - 2 hours over the course of four weeks.
Generally, January for fall semester programs and March/April for spring semester and year-long programs.
*To be held at various times of the year for after school programs.
Note: NFTE will conduct a background check which includes a criminal background check, sexual offender check and verification of S.S. number for identification purposes by CheckPoint Services, Inc. Business Plan Coaches are asked to voluntarily authorize NFTE to procure this report, which is done at no cost to the volunteer.
Business Plan Competition Judges
The NFTE program culminates with each student presenting a business plan. A panel of business leaders judge the top five business plans at each school with the winner going on to the citywide competition. Businesses are awarded venture capital ranging from $50 to $200.
Time Commitment: Approximately 90 minutes per competition. Competitions are generally held in January for fall semester programs and April and May for spring semester and year-long programs.
Guest Speaking/Teaching
There are many opportunities to guest speak or teach a lesson on topics such as supply and demand, record keeping, marketing, brainstorming business ideas, income statements, getting started (financing), or industry-specific topics. Or just come and share your experience and lessons you've learned throughout your business and educational career.
Time Commitment: Approximately 30 - 45 minutes per session.
